Michael Mando may have hinted at a major future for one of the MCU’s long-running Spider-Man villains. After returning as Mac Gargan, better known as Scorpion, in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the actor has revealed that he sees far more potential ahead for the character, including a possible transformation into Venom.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mando discussed Mac Gargan’s future and acknowledged the character’s history with the symbiote in Marvel Comics. His comments have now raised questions about whether Scorpion could eventually become the MCU’s version of Venom.
The possibility remains speculation for now. However, Mando’s remarks make it clear that the character’s story may not end with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Sony Pictures’ official cast listing also confirms Mando’s return as Mac Gargan in the film.
Michael Mando Sees Venom as Scorpion’s “Ultimate Form”
Speaking about Mac Gargan’s future, Mando described Brand New Day as only the beginning of the character’s development. The actor said the villain has much more room to evolve within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“The potential growth of [Mac Gargan] is enormous,”
Mando told The Hollywood Reporter.
“Brand New Day is level one of this character’s potential, and he has at least two or three levels up from here, one of them being the ultimate form of Venom.”
Mando also stressed that the decision is not his to make.
“That’s exciting to think about for a moment, but I’ve got to let it go because it’s in the hands of Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal,”
he added.

His comments are especially notable because Mac Gargan has a direct connection to Venom in Marvel Comics. After years as Scorpion, Gargan became one of the most prominent hosts of the Venom symbiote, giving Marvel Studios an established source-material path if it ever chooses to take the character in that direction. Marvel has also documented Gargan’s history as a Venom host.
The MCU already has an unresolved symbiote storyline. Spider-Man: No Way Home established that Eddie Brock left behind a piece of the symbiote after his brief visit to the MCU, creating an obvious opening for another character to bond with it.
That does not confirm that Gargan will become Venom. Still, Mando’s interview suggests that both he and director Destin Daniel Cretton have discussed the character’s comic-book future. The actor’s return after first appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming also gives Marvel a chance to expand a storyline that was teased years earlier.
For now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has reintroduced Scorpion as a significant threat in Peter Parker’s world. Whether Mac Gargan eventually reaches the “ultimate form of Venom” remains unknown, but Mando has made one thing clear: Scorpion’s potential future in the MCU could be far bigger than a single movie.
