Sony Pictures and director Sam Mendes are reportedly considering an ambitious release strategy for The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, a project that will tell the story of the legendary band through four separate biopics. According to The Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive report, the ideas under discussion include releasing all four films on the same day, combining their reported box office earnings, and offering a ticket package covering the entire collection.
The proposals would help Sony present the films as one connected cinematic event rather than four competing releases. Each movie focuses on a different Beatle, raising the possibility that audiences might favor one member’s story over the others if the films were marketed and measured separately.
The plans remain under discussion and have not been officially confirmed by Sony. However, the project’s producers have already indicated that they want audiences to experience all four films in theaters during the same general period. The films are scheduled for release in April 2028.
WHY SONY IS CONSIDERING A COMBINED BOX OFFICE STRATEGY
One of the biggest challenges is preventing the four Beatles movies from turning into a competition between the band’s fanbases. If each film reports its own earnings, comparisons could emerge over whether audiences prefer Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, or Ringo Starr.
The reported combined box office approach could instead present the films as parts of one larger event. However, independent box office reporting may still reveal individual ticket sales, so the proposed strategy would not necessarily eliminate comparisons altogether.
Sony is also reportedly considering a four-film ticket bundle. Such a package could encourage fans to purchase tickets for the entire collection instead of selecting one or two films and waiting for the others to become available for home viewing. Implementing the idea would require cooperation from cinema chains and a practical way to schedule screenings.

PAUL MESCAL, HARRIS DICKINSON, JOSEPH QUINN, AND BARRY KEOGHAN LEAD THE FILMS
The official project, announced by Sony Pictures, features four interconnected films told from the individual perspectives of the Beatles members. Paul Mescal plays McCartney, Harris Dickinson portrays Lennon, Joseph Quinn takes on Harrison, and Barry Keoghan plays Starr.
Producer Pippa Harris explained the intended theatrical experience at the BFI London Film Festival’s Industry Forum, saying, “We want people to be able to experience them in the cinema at the same time, during the same period.” Her comments, reported by The Hollywood Reporter, suggest that the filmmakers want audiences to watch all four films within a shared window, although they may not necessarily arrive on the exact same day.
The project is currently scheduled for April 2028, with Sony handling worldwide distribution. The reported release and ticketing proposals remain unconfirmed, meaning the studio could still adjust its plans before announcing the final schedule.
