A surprising behind-the-scenes revelation from Outlast: The Jungle has sparked fresh discussion among fans, as new details suggest winner Maddy Jones was involved in a major hunting moment that never made it to air. Fellow contestant Ben Orndorff revealed the incident on his Instagram account, describing it as one of the most intense survival sequences filmed during the season.
According to Ben, Maddy’s hunting skills were far more significant than what viewers saw on screen. Despite being portrayed as a capable survivalist, much of her hunting activity was either minimized or removed during editing. “Maddy was, like, a really nasty hunter,” Ben said in an Instagram story, using the term as praise for her efficiency and skill in the wild.
The Deleted Hunt That Never Aired
The biggest revelation centers around a dramatic encounter involving a large animal, often described as a “wild boar.” Ben explained that he and Maddy worked together to take down the animal near their camp, in what could have been one of the show’s standout moments.
“Maddy and I both teamed up and shot a boar,”
he said.
“She shot it when it was coming down into camp… and then I hit it.”
The sequence reportedly captured a tense and rare survival scenario, showcasing both teamwork and real hunting pressure.
However, despite successfully hitting the animal, the pair were unable to recover it after it fled into the jungle. As a result, the footage was ultimately excluded from the final cut.
“It was so cool, and it’s all on video,”
Ben added.
“But because we didn’t recover it, it wasn’t used in the show, which is a real bummer.”
Why the Scene Was Removed

The omission appears to be tied to production standards and narrative choices rather than the lack of action. In survival shows, footage involving animals is often handled carefully, especially when outcomes are incomplete or sensitive.
Ben later elaborated in a Q&A session, explaining the difficulty of the hunt.
“We only had 35-pound bows… that thing took off. It’s like a refrigerator made out of muscle,”
he said, emphasizing how challenging the encounter was. The animal, likely a peccary native to Panama, managed to escape despite being struck.
The inability to recover the animal meant the sequence did not contribute to the survival outcome, which may have influenced its removal. Still, the revelation has raised questions about how much of the contestants’ real efforts are left unseen.
For viewers, this new information adds a fresh layer to Maddy’s portrayal. Throughout the show, she was often seen carrying a bow, but her hunting success was rarely highlighted in full detail. This deleted moment suggests that her role as a provider may have been underrepresented.
The insight also aligns with her overall performance, as she and Nikki Hru ultimately emerged as winners. Their victory was built on endurance, teamwork, and decision-making under pressure, but moments like this hint at an even deeper survival skill set.
