Johnny Depp’s Hollywood return continues with the first trailer for Day Drinker, Lionsgate’s upcoming thriller starring Depp alongside Penélope Cruz and Madelyn Cline. The teaser gives audiences their first substantial look at Depp’s mysterious character and a story that quickly turns from a seemingly ordinary yacht encounter into something far more dangerous.
In Day Drinker, Cline plays a bartender working aboard a private yacht who encounters a mysterious guest played by Depp. Their meeting eventually connects them to a criminal figure portrayed by Cruz, setting up a story involving unexpected relationships, danger and revenge.
Johnny Depp’s Mysterious Character Takes Center Stage
The new footage presents Depp in a noticeably unusual role as his character hints that his story could involve revenge and something supernatural. The trailer’s eerie tone also suggests that Day Drinker could blend crime-thriller elements with horror.
The movie marks another major studio-backed project for Depp following his recent return to prominent film roles. He is also set to star in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, giving the actor two significant upcoming releases after a period away from major Hollywood productions.
Day Drinker also represents the fourth movie pairing between Depp and Cruz. The two previously appeared together in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Murder on the Orient Express.
Marc Webb directs the film from a screenplay by Zach Dean. Lionsgate has scheduled Day Drinker for a theatrical release on March 26, 2027.
