Gary Oldman has added fresh intrigue to the long-running search for the next James Bond, claiming that Amazon MGM Studios has already made its choice for the actor who will succeed Daniel Craig. The veteran actor, who stars alongside Jack Lowden in Slow Horses, suggested the official announcement could be coming soon.
Speaking to Canada’s The Morning Show, Oldman specifically expressed his support for Lowden, who has increasingly emerged as one of the names linked to the 007 role. However, Amazon MGM Studios has not officially confirmed that Lowden has been cast, meaning Oldman’s comments should still be treated as an indication rather than an official announcement.
Gary Oldman Claims Amazon Has Already Chosen the Next Bond
Oldman was asked about speculation surrounding Lowden during his interview and acknowledged reports that his Slow Horses co-star is among the contenders. He then appeared to go further by suggesting that the studio has already settled on its next Bond.
“It’s been rumored that [Lowden] is on the shortlist,”
Oldman said during the interview with The Morning Show.
“We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”
Oldman’s comments are particularly notable because Lowden has recently become one of the more prominent names in the Bond conversation. Lowden plays River Cartwright opposite Oldman’s Jackson Lamb in Apple TV’s espionage series Slow Horses, which has helped establish him as a recognizable actor in the spy genre. Apple’s official press materials confirm both actors remain part of the series’ main cast ahead of Season 6.
Amazon MGM, however, has not confirmed Lowden as the new 007. The studio previously stated that its search was underway and said it would not comment on specific casting details until it was ready to reveal more.
The next Bond movie already has its major creative team in place. Denis Villeneuve is directing, while Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the screenplay, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman producing. Amazon MGM officially announced Villeneuve as director in 2025 and later confirmed Knight as the screenwriter.
Lowden is not the only actor who has been connected to the coveted role. Names including Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson and others have circulated during the casting process, which officially began earlier this year. Amazon MGM reportedly brought in casting director Nina Gold to help find the next actor to portray Ian Fleming’s famous spy.
For now, Jack Lowden remains officially unconfirmed as James Bond. But if Oldman’s claim proves accurate, the long-running 007 casting mystery could be nearing its conclusion
