Vikings: Valhalla Season 2 continues the stories of Leif Eriksson, Freydís Eiríksdóttir and Harald Sigurdsson after the fall of Kattegat. Instead of keeping the trio together, the season sends them on separate journeys that challenge their beliefs, ambitions and relationships. Harald remains determined to become King of Norway, while Leif begins questioning his understanding of the world after meeting the scholar Mariam.

Meanwhile, Freydís discovers Jomsborg, a settlement intended to protect followers of the old Norse faith, and eventually becomes responsible for its survival. Their individual struggles are connected by the larger conflict between Christianity and the old pagan traditions. The season also expands the political story surrounding Canute, Emma, Olaf and England, creating several competing power struggles. By the finale, the three central characters have changed considerably, setting up new journeys that move beyond the conflicts of Season 2.

What Happens to the Main Characters in Vikings: Valhalla Season 2?

Freydís becomes one of the season’s most important leaders after arriving at Jomsborg and becoming connected with its pagan community. She gives birth to her son, Harald, but clashes with Harekr over his oppressive treatment of refugees and his vision for the settlement. After Harekr’s downfall, Freydís becomes the protector of Jomsborg and later defeats Olaf when he launches an attack against the settlement.

Harald and Leif take a completely different route, traveling through the Rus and eventually toward Constantinople. Harald uses the journey to gather resources for his ambitions in Norway, while Leif becomes increasingly interested in exploration and knowledge. His relationship with Mariam is especially important because she broadens his understanding of science, learning and the world beyond the Viking lands.

The Season 2 finale brings several storylines to a dramatic turning point. Freydís defeats Olaf, while Leif and Harald’s journey leaves them with new knowledge, wealth and ambitions, and the characters are no longer pursuing exactly the same future. Freydís returns to Kattegat and reconnects with Leif, while Harald’s political ambitions continue pushing him toward the Norwegian throne.

The ending ultimately works as a transition rather than a definitive conclusion for the characters. Freydís and Leif look toward the mysterious “golden land” across the ocean, while Harald prepares for his future as a king. Their friendship remains important, but Season 2 makes clear that each character now has a different destiny to pursue.
