The first teaser trailer for The Bluey Movie has arrived, giving fans their first look at the beloved Australian family heading to the big screen. The footage debuted during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event on August 14, where audiences were also treated to a surprise game of Keepy Uppy featuring red balloons.

The movie is scheduled to open exclusively in theaters on August 6, 2027. Joe Brumm, creator of Bluey, is returning as writer and director, while Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack are back as the voices of Chilli and Bandit.

The Bluey Movie Has a Different Animation Style

One of the biggest talking points surrounding The Bluey Movie is its transition from the television show’s familiar 2D animation to CG animation. The original series has become recognizable for its simple visual style, expressive characters and warm presentation, making the change particularly significant for longtime viewers.

The teaser offers only a brief glimpse of the feature, so it remains unclear how extensively the new visual approach will differ from the show’s established look. However, the theatrical format gives Ludo Studio an opportunity to expand Bluey’s world while maintaining the emotional storytelling that made the series a global success.

The movie is being produced by Ludo Studio in collaboration with BBC Studios. Disney is handling theatrical distribution, while BBC Studios is financing and licensing the project, meaning Bluey remains outside Disney’s ownership despite the company’s involvement with the film.

That partnership makes sense given the show’s enormous popularity. Disney’s own announcement noted that Bluey was the most-streamed program in the United States in 2025, recording 45.2 billion minutes watched during the year.

The story will follow Bluey and her family during an action-packed day after a major surprise changes their plans. Further plot details remain under wraps, preserving much of the mystery surrounding the feature.

Amber Naismith is producing, with Richard Jeffery serving as co-director. Brumm, Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson are among the executive producers representing Ludo Studio, while Justine Flynn represents BBC Studios.

With its theatrical release still more than a year away, The Bluey Movie has plenty of time to reveal how its larger format and CG animation will translate the series’ distinctive charm to cinemas.
