Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to prove its massive box office appeal, with the superhero sequel expected to lead the domestic box office for its third straight weekend. The Tom Holland-led Marvel film earned approximately $19 million on Friday and is projected to collect around $67 million during its third weekend in theaters.
The latest box office performance pushes the film closer to another major milestone, with its North American total expected to reach approximately $782.8 million within its first 17 days. That result places Spider-Man: Brand New Day among the highest-grossing domestic releases of all time, moving ahead of Top Gun: Maverick and approaching Avatar’s lifetime domestic earnings.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues record-breaking theatrical run
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya and Sadie Sink. The movie’s strong performance follows a record-setting opening period, with the latest entry becoming one of the fastest films to cross the $700 million mark at the domestic box office.
While several new movies entered theaters this weekend, none managed to challenge Sony’s superhero blockbuster. Warner Bros.’ dinosaur survival adventure The End of Oak Street opened with $8.1 million on Friday, including previews, and is expected to finish its opening weekend with around $20 million.
Starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, The End of Oak Street follows a family in the 1980s whose suburban neighborhood becomes overrun by prehistoric creatures. The film launched in approximately 3,400 theaters and received a mixed audience response, earning a B CinemaScore.
Paramount’s PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie is also targeting a $20 million domestic debut. The animated sequel earned $7.3 million on Friday, including preview screenings, while opening across more than 3,500 North American locations.
The latest PAW Patrol adventure introduces the franchise’s rescue pups to a dinosaur-filled world. The film features voice performances from Carter Young, Mckenna Grace, Terry Crews, Jennifer Hudson and Snoop Dogg. It received a strong audience response with an A CinemaScore and has already earned $38.3 million internationally.
Meanwhile, Universal’s The Odyssey remains a major box office contender in its fifth weekend. Christopher Nolan’s epic is expected to add another $23 million domestically, bringing its total North American earnings to around $504.4 million.
With Spider-Man: Brand New Day maintaining its dominance, the superhero film continues to demonstrate the lasting popularity of Marvel’s wall-crawler while newer releases fight for the remaining positions on the weekend charts.
