Spider-Man: Brand New Day has delivered one of the biggest box office launches in movie history, breaking numerous domestic, global, franchise, and theater records during its opening weekend. The Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios collaboration earned a massive $360 million in North America and $932 million worldwide, creating a historic debut that reshaped multiple box office rankings.

The film’s opening weekend surpassed Avengers: Endgame’s previous domestic record of $357.1 million, making Spider-Man: Brand New Day the biggest domestic opening ever recorded.

The film also helped create the biggest overall domestic box office weekend in history, with all movies combined generating approximately $430 million.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day becomes Sony’s biggest opening ever

The latest Spider-Man installment has become the highest-grossing opening for Sony Pictures globally and domestically, surpassing the previous record held by Spider-Man: No Way Home, which debuted with $260.1 million domestically and $600.5 million worldwide in 2021.

The movie also achieved the biggest opening weekend in the Spider-Man franchise and became the strongest launch ever for director Destin Daniel Cretton, surpassing his previous success with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Several members of the cast and production team also reached career milestones. The movie delivered the biggest domestic and global opening for Zendaya, producer Amy Pascal, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige as a producer. It also became Tom Holland’s biggest domestic opening as a leading star, surpassing his previous record from Avengers: Endgame.

The record-breaking debut has reinforced Sony’s confidence in theatrical releases and the Spider-Man franchise

The film’s advance ticket sales also set a new benchmark, generating around $150 million in U.S. and Canadian presales before release. Its preview screenings earned approximately $72 million, beating Avengers: Endgame’s $60 million Thursday night record.

Global box office success pushes Spider-Man into new territory

Beyond North America, Spider-Man: Brand New Day achieved record-breaking openings in multiple international markets. The film set new opening records in countries including India, France, Brazil, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.

In India, the movie earned $31.8 million, becoming the biggest opening ever for a Hollywood film in the market. Other major international territories also saw the film outperform previous Marvel records, including several benchmarks previously held by Avengers: Endgame.

The movie became the 38th Marvel Cinematic Universe title to open at No. 1 globally and domestically, contributing to the MCU’s combined worldwide box office total of more than $33 billion.

Premium formats and theaters benefit from Spider-Man’s success

The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day extended beyond traditional box office numbers. The film recorded the biggest global opening for premium formats including ScreenX and 4DX, earning a combined $31 million.

It also achieved the biggest domestic opening weekend for Dolby Cinema, generating more than $11 million and setting a record for the highest Dolby Cinema presales before release.

Major theater chains also benefited from the film’s popularity. AMC Theatres reported its biggest global opening weekend for both box office and concession revenue, while Regal Entertainment recorded more than $160 million in combined box office and concession revenue during the four-day weekend shared with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

Although it did not surpass Avengers: Endgame’s $1.22 billion global opening, Spider-Man: Brand New Day now holds the position of the second-biggest global opening weekend ever, ahead of Avengers: Infinity War’s $640.5 million debut.
